Welcome to UGCS!
UGCS is the student-run computing facility of the California Institute of Technology. Historically, UGCS was an educational facility within the Computer Science Department; the name stands for UnderGraduate Computer Science. We are now independent of the CS department, but we continue to provide computing resources to the Institute's undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff. For more information about our past, we have put together a brief history of UGCS.
The combination to our door is available if you are on the Caltech network.
Tip of the day for 2011-12-28 :
To create a mailing list on UGCS, login and type create_mailinglist LISTNAME. You will receive an email with the password within a minute.
Services
For our users, we provide:
- Interactive login to our systems (Debian linux)
- A computer lab in the basement of Winnett
- Email access by POP and IMAP
- Email aliases and mailing lists
- Web site space on our servers

Our mail server, hermes will be down for a few hours tonight (1/13/2012) for upgrades that we believe will improve service. No received mail will be lost, but queued during that period and delivered when the upgrades are complete.
